Confession of Limo Shooting
Born and raised in Fort Worth, Darrent Demarcus Williams was killed early on New Year’s Day when his white stretch Hummer was peppered with bullets after a dispute earlier that evening at a New Year's Eve party.
Williams had hired the Hummer limousine to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends who were in town from Texas. They went to Club Safari, a nightclub on Broadway, to attend a birthday party for Denver Nuggets player Kenyon Martin. Also at the club that night were Clark and other members of his gang. Law enforcement sources claim that a disagreement broke out between one of the players and his cousin and at least two other men. As a result of the disrespect the gang was supposedly shown, they sprayed the limo with bullets.
The Darrent Williams murder appeared to be one that would go unsolved wrapped up in the politics of gang warfare with witnesses keeping the most crucial of evidence to themselves for fear of retaliation. Although police had plenty of suspects, including the upset gang members who were at the club that night, there was no definitive trigger man for the incident in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2007. One of the shots hit Williams, 24, in the neck, killing him at the scene. Two other passengers in the Hummer were shot but survived.
A letter purportedly written by a "person of interest" in the fatal shooting of the Broncos cornerback says he fired shots into Williams' limousine when he was killed on New Year's Day 2007. The Rocky Mountain News reported Friday that it had obtained the letter, which carries the signature of Willie D. Clark. Denver police have said Clark worked for an alleged gang leader who owned the SUV believed to have been used in the shooting. Clark was arrested on a parole violation days after the slaying and is in jail on pending drug charges.
